Brooke Street Pier
The Brooke Street Pier in Hobart, Tasmania is a four story floating ferry terminal made out of concrete, secured using 25 of our most heavy-duty SEAFLEX units to allow the entire building to rise and fall with the tide while meeting a tolerance level of less than 50 mm horizontal movement.
A pier has existed at Brooke Street since the 1820s, and with a massive increase in ferry traffic over the past years (from 90 000 passengers in 2010 to over 300 000 in 2014) it was decided that the old pier needed to be redeveloped.
Manufactured at International Catamarans, the new terminal was towed down river approximately 5 nautical miles to the port area of Hobart upon completion. The structure measures 85 meters in length and 20 meters in width, with 3 stories above water and 1½ stories below complete with shops, restaurants, and a market area allowing the 5 000-ton facility to house up to 1 200 people for events outside ferry operating hours.
