Typhoon tests SEAFLEX durability

A few days ago, Typhoon Soulik ravaged parts of South Korea and ran directly across several SEAFLEX installations.

Several installations in South Korea, including three recently installed solar power plants (circled on the map above) were affected by the typhoon. Thankfully, we have been informed that all power plants escaped unharmed from the storm, even with reports of wind gusts of up to 40m/s (144 km/h or 90 mph)!

The embedded video below shows the typhoon arriving at a solar plant in the Sujang reservoir, the wind recorded here is 32 m/s (115 km/h or 72 mph).

It also shows that with the SEAFLEX mooring system in place, the barge is barely moving even when it is exposed to typhoon strength winds. SEAFLEX can be dimensioned to handle these types of extreme weather. We have at times been asked to dimension mooring systems to withstand more than 45 m/s (162 km/h or 100 mph).

The installations mentioned in the article above were all delivered by Seaflex Korea in cooperation with Nemo Eng and their Steel Floating System.
